THEN SINGS MY SOUL

This Blog is about one of my favorite things; Gospel Centered Music.

Music is ONE of the simplest forms of learning. Often we are taught entire sermons through just one song.

“Music,is one of the most forceful instruments for governing the mind and spirit of man.” -Gladstone

I am comforted, strengthened and inspired through music.

I love music, and want to share my testimony through the music that inspires me.

Please comment as you wish, and let me know how music inspires you. Make suggestions on what song you'd like to hear, or talk about.

I am going to make it a goal to select a new song each Monday and post it here. I hope as we journey through this we can grow together and live a more Christ centered life.

Week 8: For the Beauty of the Earth by John Rutter

This is one of my favorite songs.
I sang this very version in High School and I loved it then.

Amidst the cold and grey winter, I need to be reminded of the beauty of the earth, like a mini vacation from the cold! Okay, winter has it's own beauty but I don't see it after awhile.

There is so much beauty around us. It is easy to feel his love when we know he created it all for us.

I have included in this post parts of a talk I found about the creations of God by Mark J. Nielsen, "The Wonder of the Creation", Ensign, Mar. 2004, 60–65

Testimony to a Creator

"We can draw three lessons from nature’s grandeur: first, God exists; second, God is powerful; and third, God loves us. One way we can feel a surety of the Creator’s existence is to observe His handiwork. While it is the Holy Spirit that conveys such a testimony to our hearts, we may first prepare our hearts to receive it. A marvelous way to do this is to gaze into a star-filled sky on a moonless night or at the intricate patterns on the back of a single maple leaf. As Alma taught, “All things denote there is a God; yea, even the earth, and all things that are upon the face of it, yea, and its motion, yea, and also all the planets which move in their regular form do witness that there is a Supreme Creator” (Alma 30:44).

...We are keenly aware of God’s majesty and power when we see His handiwork in motion. Next time you stand at the foot of a roaring waterfall or at the toe of a mighty glacier, reflect on the power of the Creator.
Along with teaching us that God exists and that He is powerful, the very existence of this earth impresses upon us the reality that God loves us. God’s manifest power in the universe leads us to say, as did David, “When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;

“What is man, that thou art mindful of him?” (Ps. 8:3–4).

Our answer may be found in asking another question: how important must mankind be to God, seeing that He has created all of this for us? We are surrounded by signs of God’s love for us. The beauty of Creation itself is “love which from our birth over and around us lies” (“For the Beauty of the Earth,” Hymns, no. 92).

...We were present at the Creation, singing with joy for the opportunities this earth would afford us. Though we don’t remember that event now, the beauty around us is a constant reminder of our Heavenly Father’s love and concern for His children."

I love thinking that I witnessed the Creation, I love thinking about how much he loves me.
I always love camping when the stars are bright, and hiking through the beautiful hillsides and mountain tops.
Some wonderful feelings have blossomed in my soul at the site of nature and its splendid beauty.
It is so easy to get caught up in life and forget to look at the beauty around us.
It is so difficult to remember when the news fills our minds with images of hate and ugliness.

Our children are in constant wonder and awe in the sites that surround them. The beauty that they see is still there, when did I stop seeing it? This earth is His creation, my children are His creation and I think they are beautiful (especially, when they are sleeping). Remember the beauty of the earth, and the beauty of God's love for us. Reflect on the times when you were surrounded by his beautiful creations and Enjoy them.
