THEN SINGS MY SOUL

This Blog is about one of my favorite things; Gospel Centered Music.

Music is ONE of the simplest forms of learning. Often we are taught entire sermons through just one song.

“Music,is one of the most forceful instruments for governing the mind and spirit of man.” -Gladstone

I am comforted, strengthened and inspired through music.

I love music, and want to share my testimony through the music that inspires me.

Please comment as you wish, and let me know how music inspires you. Make suggestions on what song you'd like to hear, or talk about.

I am going to make it a goal to select a new song each Monday and post it here. I hope as we journey through this we can grow together and live a more Christ centered life.

Week 3: I Know That My Savior Loves Me (Primary 2010 theme)

Primary Theme for 2010: I Know That My Savior Loves Me

Vs. 1
A long time ago in a beautiful place,
children were gathered ‘round Jesus
He blessed and taught as they felt of His love.
Each saw the tears on His face.
The love that He felt for His little ones
I know He feels for me.
I did not touch Him or sit on his knee,
Yet Jesus is real to me.
Vs. 2
-  Now I am here in a beautiful place,
Learning the teachings of Jesus.
Parents and teachers will help guide the way,
Lighting my path ev’ry day.
- Wrapped in the arms of my Savior’s love,
 I feel His gentle touch.
Living each day, I will follow His way,
 - Home to my Father above.

Chorus:
I know he lives!
I will follow faithfully.
My heart I give to Him.
I know that my Savior loves me.

I Know My Savior Loves Me
by Tami Jeppson Creamer & Derena Bell

I am the Primary Music Director in my ward. I felt I needed to share with you the song that we sang for 2010. I have fallen in love with this song. What a wonderful oppurtunity it has been to feel and hear the testimonies of the children in Primary.
This song is based on the account in the Book of Mormon when Christ comes to the Americas and gathers the children. ONE OF MY FAVORITE STORIES!!

3 Nephi 17:11-24
11 And it came to pass that he commanded that their alittle children should be brought.
12 So they brought their little children and set them down upon the ground round about him, and Jesus stood in the midst; and the multitude gave way till they had all been brought unto him.
13 And it came to pass that when they had all been brought, and Jesus stood in the midst, he commanded the multitude that they should akneel down upon the ground.
14 And it came to pass that when they had knelt upon the ground, Jesus groaned within himself, and said: Father, I am atroubled because of the wickedness of the people of the house of Israel.
15 And when he had said these words, he himself also aknelt upon the earth; and behold he bprayed unto the Father, and the things which he prayed cannot be written, and the multitude did bear record who heard him.
  16 And after this manner do they bear record: The aeye hath never seen, neither hath the ear heard, before, so great and marvelous things as we saw and heard Jesus speak unto the Father;
17 And no atongue can speak, neither can there be written by any man, neither can the hearts of men conceive so great and marvelous things as we both saw and heard Jesus speak; and no one can conceive of the joy which filled our souls at the time we heard him pray for us unto the Father.
18 And it came to pass that when Jesus had made an end of praying unto the Father, he arose; but so great was the ajoy of the multitude that they were overcome.
19 And it came to pass that Jesus spake unto them, and bade them arise.
20 And they arose from the earth, and he said unto them: Blessed are ye because of your faith. And anow behold, my joy is full.
21 And when he had said these words, he awept, and the multitude bare record of it, and he took their little children, one by one, and bblessed them, and prayed unto the Father for them.
  22 And when he had done this he wept again;
23 And he spake unto the multitude, and said unto them: Behold your little ones.
24 And as they looked to behold they cast their eyes towards heaven, and they saw the heavens open, and they saw angels descending out of heaven as it were in the midst of fire; and they came down and aencircled those little ones about, and they were encircled about with fire; and the angels did minister unto them.

What a beautiful message to the childrent to hear.
This song brings the children into the story and helps them learn how this message applies to them now. They learn that the Savior loves them.

As they learned this song, I know that many felt the spirit.
The chorus of this song is a declaration of a testimony that even the youngest children in primary sang with true conviction.
"I know He Lives!"
The last line in the chorus is a truth that will forever help any child or adult.
"I know that my Savior loves me!"
It is something I need to always remind myself of.
He knows me and HE loves me.

I really pray that as these children grow they will always remember that truth.
Knowing that the Savior loves me is sometimes that only thing that really gives me peace and strength to continue doing the right thing, and the very thing that helps me to know that I can change and repent.

  1. Amy - I am so grateful that you were inspired to teach this song to our kids. It's become a favorite in our home and is the 'most requested' song to sing on the way to school. Never forget that most of the influence you will have through this calling will be influence that you may never know. I certainly don't remember WHO it was that taught me my favorite primary songs, but they are as much as part of me as the color of my eyes. They became the lullabies that I sang to my babies and still bring the spirit into my life. We love you! Thanks for tackling the challenge - you're amazing!
